If you are nearing your higher secondary, it is right that you should decide whether to do your MBBS in India or abroad. We at way2college will help you.
If you have been watching, you might have noticed that the medical education field in India has undergone a great change in the recent past. Yes, we are talking about the NEET UG that has replaced the most popular AIPMT, which was conducted earlier in India as the national-level test for admission to the MBBS and BDS Courses. Are you confused with the selection between doing MBBS in India and MBBS Abroad? Our career expert Mr Mukesh Maheshwari at Way2College.com will help you decide on this by showing you the intricacies in both:
What do the CBSE Figures say?
You might be aware of the fact that the Central Board of Secondary Education conducts the NEET exam. As far as the 2017 figures of NEET are concerned, nearly 65,170 MBBS seats were offered across 470 medical colleges in India. As far as BDS is concerned, there were 25,730 seats across 308 dental colleges. You might also be aware that some centrally funded institutions do not participate in NEET like JIPMER and AIIMS for example. These non-participating institutions jointly had 907 seats for MBBS across 9 campuses. So, you can very well understand the competition. Unless and until you secure a very good rank, it is pretty hard to get admission. Of course, you can work hard like other students, who have got admission through NEET in MBBS course in 2017.
How about cost?
It is true that getting a seat in a government medical college is tough in India. But, the cost of the course in a government college in India is much lesser as compared to medical colleges in countries like the United States, European Union, China and Russia. The cost of MBBS Course in those countries starts from Rs.1000 to Rs.1 Lakh per annum.
China and Russia are a couple of major international destinations for the Indians planning to pursue their medical education abroad. Some of the popular institutions in Russia for medical education include:
- Kazan State Medical University
- Tver State Medical Academy
- Volgograd Medical University
- Saint Petersburg Medical University
When it comes to China, here are some popular medical institutions in China:
- Nanjing Medical University
- Jilin University
- Huazhong University of Science & Technology
The cost of medical education ranges between Rs.20 and Rs.60 lakhs in these institutes similar to many private medical colleges in India.
Permission for practising:
If you do your medical education abroad and decide to serve for one of the best cardiology hospitals in India for example after doing your PG in cardiology, you will have to get through the rigorous Foreign Medical Graduates Examination shortly called as FMGE conducted by the Medical Council of India.
Benefits of doing MBBS Abroad:
If you are still confused to decide, you should, of course, know the advantages of doing medical education abroad:
- Large hospitals-cum-institutions with world-class infrastructure
- Availability of Government Universities Abroad
- No Donation
- No Entrance Test for admission
- MCI Approved practice in India by getting through FMGE
Conclusion:
In short, both these choices have their own advantages and disadvantages. You will have to decide the one that suits you the best!
