Make This Tasty Falafel Wrap Recipe at Home with Ease

Falafel is an extremely popular Middle Eastern dish that is made from chickpeas, broad beans, spices, and oil. Falafel is a beloved street food item that has in recent years become known in most parts of the world. These kebab-like fritters are in the shape of a patty or a Tikki and are delicious to consume. Most Indians love Falafel because of the presence of chickpeas in them and their similarities to tikkis etc. 

Making Falafel requires one to follow several procedures which we will get into later, and Falafel itself is used to make several other dishes like wraps, sandwiches, salads, rice bowls etc. Before we begin this wrap recipe, if you are on the lookout for some delicious veg kebab or frozen Falafel, then ITC Master Chef Lebanese Kebab Falafel is your best bet. A Falafel wrap is made with flatbread, falafel, chopped fresh veggies, and a range of sauces. This food item is perfect for lunch or as an evening snack and is enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Vegans too will find this dish delicious to consume as it contains no milk products. It must be noted, however, that Vegans will have to choose plant-based sauces to make this dish work for them. 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of broad beans
  • 1 cup of chickpeas
  • Fresh coriander
  • Fresh parsley
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped garlic 
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Black pepper powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder 
  • ½ tsp Red chilli powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp Baking powder
  • Oil for frying
  • Fresh sliced tomatoes
  • Fresh sliced lettuce or cabbage
  • Sliced onion
  • Sliced Avocado
  • Sliced veggies of your choice (Cucumber, carrot, bell pepper)
  • Tahini Dressing
  • Mayonaisse
  • Lemon
  • Pita bread 

Procedure:

  • Wash and soak all the beans overnight. 
  • Drain the water and blend the beans in a grinder till a thick and uniform mixture is formed. 
  • Mix the spices to this blend till it is uniform and green. Also, add a pinch of baking soda to this and your falafel mix is ready
  • Scoop the falafel mixture and fry it in hot oil till golden brown for crispy cooked falafels. You can also use ready to eat falafels like frozen kebabs if you do not have these ingredients or the time to prepare felafels.
  • Now take Pita bread and lay fresh veggies on top. Add the falafels to the veggies and pour in the sauces of your choice. You can add bits of feta cheese, a squeeze of lemon juice for the added zing and even avocadoes for a healthy and delicious snack.
  • Fold the pita bread into a wrap shape and your Falafel wrap is ready! Enjoy with hummus, mint mayo or any other dips of your choice and dive into a world of flavour and texture.

This recipe can be used for kids’ lunches, brunch time, or even as evening snacks. An open and smaller version of this can be served as starters at dinners too. You can also add a desi twist to this by adding pudina chutney as a sauce, along with some marinated paneer. If you don’t have Pita Bread, you can use a roti made with Maida for a wholesome wrap too!
