What is a biliary stent tube? Well it is a tube which is mainly inserted in the common bile duct that is present in the human liver and it is necessary to do that when the duct gets blocked somehow. Once the surgery is over the stent is inserted to unblock that duct so that it can remain inflated and operative.
According to biliary stent manufacturers, this is mainly made of inert metals (sometimes in plastic as well) which can give a very immune response.
We all know that liver is a very important organ in a human body because it helps in the process of digestion. How do they do it? Well, they produce bile that helps the fats to break down. This bile gets drained from the liver to the common bile duct and then this duct again empties it to the portion of the bowel that receives the food that has been partially digested in the stomach. When the common bile duct gets blocked then the normal liver function and the digestion system gets hampered.
When there is a non malignant duct blockage then it is actually an injury o the duct that can happen while one goes for a surgery to remove the gall bladder. There can also be blockage in the bile duct which can be caused by traumatic injury in the abdomen, presence of gallstones and inflammation in the pancreas that is located under the liver.
These ducts can also become inflamed due to a certain condition that is known as Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. This condition needs treatment and use of a biliary stent can correct the issue. One can get these stents online as well from the biliary stent suppliers.
When there is a surgical procedure where the biliary stent is inserted, then firstly a catheter is inserted in the bile duct which is blocked. Then the stent is inserted. There are mainly 2 ways by which the stent can be placed. One is PTC or the Percutaneous Transhepatic Cholangiography or the ERCP which is Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiography.
When ERCP is done, then there is a usage of a hollow tube which is also known as the endoscope. This tube can be easily inserted through the mouth of the patient and then it reaches the oesophagus and the stomach to the certain point where the bile duct gets emptied in the small intestine. When the endoscope is inserted properly, then there is a second tube that is inserted and it is called the cannula. With the help of the cannula a coloured dye is being injected to the bile duct.
Then the doctor takes an X ray of the abdomen. This dye enhances the contrast in the X ray and so the blockage in the bile duct gets easily identified. So, when the doctor think that a biliary stent is required, then they insert it through the catheter and then place it at the blockage area which has the highest contrast.
Once the procedure is done, the blockage gets relieved.
